William James Moriarty is the villainous and later heroic main protagonist of Moriarty the Patriot.
He was voiced by Soma Saito in Japanese and by Aaron Dismuke in the English dub. As a child, he was voiced by Shizuka Ishigami in Japanese and by Emily Neves in the English dub.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: While using villainous means to do so, William was always trying to stop the classist system and later redeemed himself at the end of Part 1, being a full on hero. Before that, he did heroic deeds such as stopping the Jack the Ripper killings. William also shows respect and empathy to those who were harmed by the classist system whilst also respecting Sherlock for his intelligence and innate nobility.
- Courageous: Despite going against powerful villains such as Charles Augustus Milverton, William never falters in his desire for a better world.
- Stubborn: Despite being hated by the population of Britain, William is still willing to kill nobles and go on his crime spree to purify Britain.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: William seeks to end the classist system in England by exposing the crimes of its nobility.
- Hard-Working: While naturally talented, William is still willing to take a long and arduous journey to destroy the classist system of England.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: William often shows value and respect to the people he works with in his aim to cleanse Britain such as Fred, Moran, Louis and Albert which causes them to remain loyal to his cause.
- Has Rivals/Mentors: William was taught by successful assassin, Jack the Ripper, in how to kill people and was a rival to Sherlock Holmes for most of Part 1 before becoming friends with him at the end of the Final Problem Arc.
- Rebellious: William almost always goes against the classist system in England and fights the government in order to ensure equality.
- Tragic Past: William was originally a poor orphan who had to survive by his mind before suffering classism by some of the nobility, including his own adopted family, which were factors that made him believe that the corrupt nobles needed to die whilst having a huge guilt complex from the murders.
- Is a Primary-Colored Champion: William has blond hair and is noted for his scarlet eyes, and also wears a red tie.
