Wild Woody is the titular main protagonist of the 1995 Sega CD video game of the same name.
He is voiced by Joe Kerska and motion captured by Donald Hom.
What Makes Him A Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Once he was brought to life by a totem pole head named Low Man, he plays an remarkably important role as a cosmic superhero in his given objective with saving the universe and restoring back life on Earth when Low Man's evil brothers blew up Earth and caused trouble throughout the universe, and Woody was created to pursue after them through 5 separate fictional worlds that were taken over by Low Man's brothers in order to bring life back to normal (which also helped restoring peace and balance those 5 fictional worlds)
- Courageous/Reckless: He once exclaimed his sense of justice and morality to Tombstone (one of the villainous totem heads) while correcting him when he was called a "pencil neck" and he then fearlessly jumps off the cliff of a table and plummets into a trash can with a picture that says "Come on down... just For the HELL of it!", which leads to the level "The Pits".
- Energetic: Specifically, in the CGI cutscenes, he is incredibly exuberant, lively, hammy, vocal, a total thrill-seeker who is always excited, and often prone to shouting and yelling his own name "WiIiIiIiIiIiIiLd Woody!!!", which he does rather hysterically and loudly with valor and bravado, even when performing a heroic action.
- And throughout the game, Woody seems to be cheery and hyperactive when he is seen standing still, moving around in a bit of a bouncy way to show how excited he is about everything.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: He vowed to go save the world as well as the universe once he was informed of the cosmic situation by Low Man.
- Hard-Working: He single-handedly went through 5 cosmic worlds to travel through several mazes and eventually face Low Man's villainous totem pole head brothers in order to bring the world back to life and also save the universe.
- Unintelligent: He outright admits how naive and ignorant he is by stating that his very name is the only thing that he knows, and he generally acts like a complete goofball in the cutscenes despite providing many witticisms and retorts.
- Optimistic: He is always cheerful and has not once shown doubt or hesitation in his goal.
- Idealistic: Even though he is just a pencil, he feels like he can use his eraser butt to attack enemies and seeks to go retrieve Totem heads on it's own, no matter how illogical it sounds.
- Determined: He does not let anyone put him down (even during a quest that feels tedious to him), especially the moment Tombstone said he had no chance at saving the world or the universe, and Woody believes otherwise and asserts his bravado to make it clear.
- Confident/Cocky: On top of shouting his name to proudly announce his heroic behavior, he shows lots of confidence in thwarting the villains, especially with the last totem pole head Tombstone.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: While he believed in his own strength and abilities, he does show to have faith in Low Man when the latter congratulating Woody for defeating Tombstone, and has shown to have some interest due to his belief in Low Man when Low Man claims he was willing to grant him anything he wants for being a hero of the cosmos.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Even though he's just only a pencil, he singlehandedly survived the dangers of being in dangerous worlds like a pirate world, a mythology world, a mechanical world, a science-fiction world, and even a spooky cemetery world.
- Short-Tempered: While he is hardly seen angry (if at all), he was once impatient when he asked Low Man if the quest was over yet.
- Mischievous: He is shown some playful and puckish traits that makes him fun-loving, such as holding a dynamite with a devious smile in the cover art, seems to enjoy cracking jokes and even tease people at anyone's expense, is a horny pervert in regard to fantasizing mermaids and even wanting a paintbrush to be his girlfriend (which made him ogle at her in excitement), and seems to enjoy inconveniencing the villainous Totem Heads when he defeats them (ex. using Tombstone like a basketball upon defeating him and throwing him to the totem pole).
- Rebellious: He seems to defy all rules and conventions in the worlds he goes in by making sketches to defy all logic and nature during his quest of fighting and retrieving the totem heads.
- Is a Blood Knight: Happens to be fearless in any of the fights he faced with Low Man's totem brothers, at one point going berserk and got pretty violent and aggressive towards Orbit, the space cadet totem pole head with a rocket blasting on its back, before throwing him back on the totem pole.
- Is a Primary-Color Champion: Yellow and white.
- Is a Challenge Seeker: He outright went through the trouble of dimension-traveling and saving the world (including the universe) since it's like a challenge to him, and said he'd do it again if his game was successful enough to get a sequel.
- Is an Underdog: He was once expected fall in the losing end towards Tombstone, yet Woody exclaims his underestimation of him and chose to fight against the odds with all of his unwavering confidence and resilience to bring him down a peg (which he does).
- Is a Mascot with Attitude: He has plenty of sass since his silly & larger-than-life personality best seen in the cutscenes, mixed with his daredevilish traits & goofy sense of humor, gives him a smug attitude that makes him stand out in a sassy and eccentric way.
- Is a Shotoclone: Wild Woody's fighting style involves a rising physical attack by jumping and landing on his enemies while rubbing them out with his eraser rear end as a form of attack.
