Verne is the deuteragonist of Over the Hedge. He was voiced by the late Garry Shandling.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Alongside RJ, Verne saved all of the other animals from getting killed by Vincent, Gladys and Dwayne.
- Courageous: While he is rather cautious and can be paranoid at times, Verne is brave enough to risk his life to save others.
- Stubborn: Verne can be stubborn when it comes to changes to the point of being somewhat closed-minded.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: As the leader of the animal community, Verne wants to protect them as he views them as his family.
- Hard-Working: Verne has put in all of effort to keep the community together and forage the food before winter comes around.
- Determined: Despite the odds stacked against him, Verne will always try his best.
- Self-Sacrificing: Verne is a selfless person who is willing to risk life to protect his loved ones.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Verne views the animals as his family and believes in teamwork, going as far as to cooperate with RJ and put their rivalry behind them.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Verne manages to survive being swept by a street cleaner.
- Short-Tempered: Verne can be prone to anger and grew envious of RJ when the community branded him as the new leader.
