Tanjiro Kamado is the main protagonist of the action dark fantasy anime/manga series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
He is voiced by Natsuki Hanae in Japanese and Zach Aguilar in English.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Tanjiro has killed countless demons which protected many innocents in the short-term and eventually defeated Muzan Kibutsuji which protected the world in the long-term and is never shown to have joy in killing them (much rather the opposite as he feels extreme sympathy for them).
- Courageous: Tanjiro is very brave and ready to put his life on the line to protect those he loves.
- Energetic: While he is usually calm, Tanjiro can get hotblooded whenever slaying demons, and shows an excitable side often while off-duty.
- Stubborn: Despite Giyu and others' protests, Tanjiro insists that there is someone who can heal his sister Nezuko.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Tanjiro's ultimate goal of becoming a Demon Slayer was to find a way to heal Nezuko and kill Muzan to avenge his family.
- Hard-Working: After enrolling in the Demon Slayer Corps, Tanjiro has consistently trained hard to accomplish his goals.
- Optimistic: He keeps an overall optimistic attitude despite going through various hardships, unlike many Demon Slayers who became overall pessimistic after years of serving in the Corps.
- Idealistic: Tanjiro believes it is possible to cure Nezuko’s condition as a demon, instead of ending her life.
- Determined: Tanjiro is extremely determined and never gives up on anything once he sets his mind on it.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Due to his strong empathy, Tanjiro is generally an all-loving person and cherishes his bonds with his closest friends.
- Possesses Plot Armor: After being turned into a demon by Muzan, Tanjiro is eventually successfully calmed down by his loved ones instead of dying under the blade of another Demon Slayer.
- Spiky Hair: Tanjiro has spiky hair.
- Unnatural Hair Color: He has burgundy accents in his brown hair
- Short-Tempered: Despite being overall a calm person, Tanjiro can still be wrathful at times, such as being unable to tolerate Inosuke's combat-hungriness and Zenitsu's cowardice, and scolding Yushiro after he called Nezuko an eyesore.
- Has a Rival/Mentors: Tanjiro has a mild, mostly one-sided rivalry with Inosuke and is mentored by Sakonji Urokodaki and Kyojuro Rengoku.
- Has an Idol: Tanjiro looks up to Rengoku as a role model.
- Tragic Past: At the start of the series, Tanjiro loses his entire family (except for his sister Nezuko) to Muzan Kibutsuji, who also turns Nezuko into a demon, leading to him joining the Demon Slayer Corps to cure Nezuko and avenge his fallen family members.
- Forgiving: Tanjiro is willing to forgive demons despite their actions during their lives.
- Is a True Hero: While it is true he wants to get even with Muzan for killing his family, the main reason Tanjiro kills demons is so that he can save others from being harmed by them.
- Has a Battle Cry: Tanjiro often yells in fights.
- Is a Teen Hero: Tanjiro is 13 years old at the start of his journey and ends it at 16.
