Spike, also known as Spike the Dragon, is a pre-teen male dragon and one of the main characters in the animated TV series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. He is Twilight Sparkle's assistant and Right-Hand of the Mane Six.

He is voiced by Cathy Weseluck.

What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]

  • Heroic/Honorable: In "Equestria Games" Spike saved the Crystal Empire. (He was also confirmed to have done this twice)
  • Courageous: Spike is willing to risk his life to save the Mane Six.
  • Energetic: Spike is shown to be extremely hyperactive, and this can vary with different reasons (more so his crush on Rarity)
  • Hard-Working: He always does favors for Twilight (sometimes Rarity), sometimes if it was for his own personal gain.
  • Believes in the Power of Friendship: This is very obvious, but with the Mane 6 (rarely) they all have been able to defeat villains (IE. Queen Chrysalis, King Tirek, etc)
  • Possesses Plot Armor: Since he is a main character, he's been shown to be extremely resilient to fatal injuries/situations or just walking out of situations where he was thought to be dead.
  • Spiky Hair: Spike's scales resemble a mohawk.
  • Big Eater: In "Owl's Well that ends Well", Spike was shown in a scene eating a whole lot of gems.
  • Has an Idol: (Although his crush is Rarity) Spike really looks up to Twilight and even sees her as a sibling.
  • Rebellious: When Spike was trying to be like the other dragons, he at one point refused to throw a hatching pheonix egg off of a tree because they are just a baby, like he once was.
  • Mischievous: Due to his jealousy of Owliscious, he tried to blame a death on him in a rather mischevious manner, to which he got caught while putting his action to plan.
