Prince Eric (simply known as Eric) is the deuteragonist of The Little Mermaid and a supporting character in The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea. He is the love interest and later husband of Ariel, the father of Melody, the son-in-law of King Triton and Queen Athena, and the brother-in-law of Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista, and Andrina. In the first film, Eric has decided to date Ariel after she saved him from drowning during a storm.
In the original film, he was voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes. In the sequel, he was voiced by Rob Paulsen.
What Makes Him A Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Saves Ariel (and indirectly Atlantis) from Ursula and goes to save his daughter Melody from Morgana.
- Courageous/Reckless: Is ready to fight Ursula no matter what, even when Ariel says to him to go and overall is more than willing to put his life in danger to save someone close to him.
- Energetic: Is shown as a working aristocrat during sailing on the ship that wrecked later.
- Stubborn: Refuses to leave Ariel in danger even when she asks him to.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: To be with Ariel and to defend his family and kingdom.
- Hard-Working: When it comes to save someone close to him, he does his best to do so. Good examples are fighting Ursula (who was dangerous) and doing his best to defend his daughter Melody.
- Unintelligent: Interesting version. While he definitely isn't stupid, he didn't recognize the girl who saved him, when she literally was in front of him.
- Optimistic: Is mostly seen is good mood. While he initially couldn't find a girl who saved him (despite he was in front of him all that time), he never lost his faith.
- Determined: During fighting Ursula at least.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Risks his life to save his friends during the shipwreck and defeats Ursula to save Ariel.
- Oblivious to Love: He didn't recognize the girl who saved him.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Ariel saves him from drowning to death and later from Ursula.
- Forgiving: Didn't become angry with his daughter Melody when she escaped. On the contrary, he did his best to find and save her from Morgana and later talked to her as nothing happened.
- Is a Neglectful Parent: While he is definitely a good father to Melody, he couldn't keep track of her and she ran away.
- Is a True Hero: While Ariel arguably did more than him, he still passes the baseline by killing Ursula.
