Master Po Ping (born as Lotus Shan) is the titular main protagonist of the Kung Fu Panda series.

He is voiced by Jack Black.

What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]

  • Heroic/Honorable: Po has defended against threats, including but not limited to Tai Lung, Lord Shen, Kai, and the Chameleon.
  • Courageous/Reckless: Po does not fear confronting the threats and sometimes get himself hurt.
  • Energetic: Po is extremely excitable for his age and has moments of being hyperactive.
  • Stubborn: Po refuses to give up being the Dragon Warrior despite Shifu initially distrusts Po's capability and attempts to make Po quit.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: Po wants to become the Dragon Warrior and he eventually does so.
  • Unintelligent: While he is rather knowledgeable about kung-fu history and is generally insightful and wise, Po is very much an absolute goofball and has had his fair share of dumb moments here and there.
    • While he loses much of his dimwittedness and gains more self-awareness in the sequels, he still keeps his goofy personality and basic lack of common sense.
  • Hard-Working: Po actively accepts the training despite the initial training method is not suit to him.
  • Optimistic: Regardless of his hardships, Po manages to see the positive things in his life.
  • Idealistic: Po believes that anyone can be anything they desire to be as long as they believe in themselves.
  • Determined: Po refuses to back down from a challenge, no matter how much he struggles.
  • Confident: After training under Shifu's tutelage, Po gains more faith in his fighting abilities.
  • Unpredictable: Po uses his goofy nature to his advantage to make his enemies unable to figure out his next move.
  • Believes in the Power of Friendship: After proving himself as worthy of the Dragon Warrior title by beating Tai Lung, he earns the respect of the Furious Five, which he frequently reciprocates in the sequels. Even before he formally meets the Furious Five, he often had dreams of fighting alongside them as demonstrated in the first movie's opening scene.
  • Possesses Plot Armor: Po has survived all sorts of dangers acrros the movies.
  • Has Mentors: Po is mentored by Shifu.
  • Big Eater/Drinker: Po is known for his massive obsession with food, having many moments of eating a lot, to the point Shifu utilizes it to train him.
  • Has an Idol: Po idolized the Furious Five.
  • Tragic Past: When Po was baby, Lord Shen decided to massacre the pandas due to a prophecy by the Soothsayer saying a warrior of black and white will kill him. His mother fled carrying him in his arms until Shen's wolves caught up to them. Seeing no way out, Po's mother put him in a radish crate before sacrificing herself, which eventually led to him being sent to Mr. Ping. The experience would traumatize Po to the point he gets PTSD from seeing Lord Shen's feathers and his crew’s symbol.
  • Is a Blood Knight: Po gets enjoyment out of fighting opponents that are stronger and more skilled than him.
  • Forgiving: Po is generally forgiving toward his enemies.
  • Is a Challenge Seeker: Po wants to pursue any challenge that others find difficult to overcome in order to prove his capabilities.
  • Call Out Attacks: Every time Po uses the Wu-Xi Finger Hold, he shouts:
    • SKADOOSH!!!!!
