Patrick Jane is the protagonist of the TV show The Mentalist. He is a consultant of the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He specializes in realizing if someone is telling the truth or lying and really is smart on how to get people to act or talk. They have dealt with many killers and criminals in general. Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon who have been partners for the longest time have captured many criminals including the notorious Red John.
Patrick and Teresa were moved to the FBI in Texas after Red John's death and the CBI being compromised after. When the CBI officially shut down, Patrick was given an offer to join the FBI from a head man named Dennis Abbott. After a long amount of thinking and realizing he still wants to work with Teresa, he chose to work with the FBI in Texas. He has been working with the FBI in Texas capturing criminal after criminal since then. He's played by Simon Baker.
What Makes Him A Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: He helps the police to investigate tons of crimes, to arrest lots of dangerous criminals like Tommy Volter or Michael Ridley, and to save countless people from these criminals and/or from being arrested for someone else's crimes. Helps his friend Wayne Rigsby to save his wife Grace Van Pelt. Helps to avenge Vega's death.
- Courageous/Reckless: One of good examples of Patrick's bravery is saving a whole town from a drug dealer. He also tends to be reckless at times (albeit rarely).
- Energetic: Is shown to be incredibly energetic.
- Stubborn: Wants to kill Red John even despite Lisbon's countless warnings.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: To kill Red John and to be with Lisbon.
- Hard-Working: He is always seen thinking about who is the criminal.
- Optimistic: He is mostly seen smiling or keeping a good mood.
- Determined: To kill Red John.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Good examples are helping Rigsby to save Van Pelt and helping to avenge Vega's death.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Is saved even by Red John himself.
- Has Rivals/Mentors: His rival is Red John.
- Mischievous: Very often he doesn't take things seriously and also tends to make pranks towards his friends.
- Rebellious: No matter how many times Lisbon tried to prevent Jane from killing Red John, he still killed him.
- Tragic Past: He grew up motherless under his father's unideal influence and his wife and daughter were killed by Red John.
- Forgiving: Unless you are Red John.
- Is a Chick/Dude Magnet: Towards Lisbon at least. Also had sex with Lorelea Martins and some romantic feelings to Erica Flynn.
- Is an Underdog: He isn't an offical police officer.
- Is a True Hero: At least, he currently the only character in his show to pass the baseline.
