What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Oscar saves Reef City by making peace with the Great White Sharks, which led to him creating a society where fish and sharks live together in harmony.
- Courageous/Reckless: Oscar stands up for Lenny against Don Lino and manages to defeat him by trapping him in the whale-washing machine.
- Energetic: Oscar is incredibly fun-loving and likes to party with his friends.
- Stubborn: Oscar goes along with his plans despite others telling him not to.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Oscar wants to be rich and famous in order to gain respect and admiration from those around him.
- Unintelligent: Though he is very street-smart, otherwise Oscar is extremely impulsive, reckless and makes plenty of dumb decisions, such as betting on a horse race with the money Angie gave him that Oscar was supposed to use to pay off the debt he was forced to pay.
- Optimistic: Despite of his misfortunes, Oscar manages to pull himself up to see the good in his life.
- Confident/Cocky: Oscar is very overconfident and tends to have somewhat of a ego at times.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Oscar instantly warms up to Lenny and befriends him. This eventually led to Oscar creating a society where fish and sharks can be friends.
- Possesses Plot Armor: If Oscar didn't use the whale-washing machine to defeat Don Lino, he would've been eaten.
- Oblivious to Love: Due to his own insecurities, Oscar was oblivious to Angie's romantic feelings for him.
- Mischievous: He likes to tease and taunt a lot, and also likes getting in anyone's way (especially Angie's during work).
- Has an Idol: During his childhood, Oscar looked up to his father Earl and wanted to work at the Whale Wash like him.
- Tragic Past: When Oscar was a kid, he idolized his father and wanted to work at the Whale Wash. When he shared his show-and-tell in class, his classmates mocked him for it. This led to Oscar developing insecurities about being a nobody and desires to become famous to gain the respect of those around him.
- Is an Underdog: Oscar starts out at the bottom of the social hierarchy due to being a tongue-scrubber, but he wants to reach at the top.
- Is a Chick Magnet: Due to his charismatic, comedic and kind nature, Oscar attracts many women, specifically Angie and the female turtles at the Whale Wash. Lola was only in love with his money though.
- Is a Mascot with Attitude: Oscar is a fun-loving and charismatic fish who loves dancing and hip-hop.
- Street-Smart: Was able to outsmart his enemies at the end of the film.
