  • Energetic: Befitting of his rubbery powers, Luffy is very energetic, adventurous, and excitable to the point of being hyperactive.

  • Has Rivals/Mentors: Luffy rivals with Law and Kid and is solely guided by Rayleigh, who taught him how to use Haki.
  • Big Eater/Drinker: Due to his rubbery body, Luffy has been shown to be eating and drinking large amounts of food and drinks, with meat being his exclusive favorite food.
  • Has an Idol: Luffy looks up to Shanks and wants to surpass him as the Pirate King.
  • Tragic Past: Luffy has experienced two troubling events during his childhood:
    • Due to not understanding Shanks's pacifistic nature, he ran away from him due to seeing him as a weak pirate, and then gets kidnapped by Higuma who tried to kill him. After Shanks comes to save him, his arm gets torn off by the Sea King that killed Higuma for which Luffy blamed himself until Shanks assured him that it's not his fault.
    • Luffy had also felt extreme sadness about not having parents, as he was so lonely that he would do anything to be Ace and Sabo's friends, even withstanding a week-long torture instead of telling on them.
