Mario is the main protagonist of the The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
He is voiced by Chris Pratt.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Along with Luigi, Mario uses the Super Star to defeat Bowser and prevents him from conquering the world.
- Courageous/Reckless: Mario is generally courageous when confronting enemies.
- Energetic: Mario has several moments of being excitable.
- Stubborn: Mario refuses to give up despite being overpowered by Donkey Kong during the duel between them.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Mario wants to rescue Luigi after the latter gets captured by Bowser. He also wants to defeat Bowser and end his plan of world domination, as well as wanting to make his father know he is no joke.
- Hard-Working: Despite initially fails to finish the train course, Mario tries many times and eventually becomes more skilled than before.
- Optimistic: Despite being discouraged by his former boss Spike and then most of his family members, Mario eventually maintains his optimistic attitude in Super Mario Bros. Plumbing.
- Determined: Whether it is running a plumbing business or saving the world, Mario never accepts backing down, no matter the struggle.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Due to the strength and durability of the Super Star, Mario and Luigi survive being eaten by a Pirahna Plant.
- Has Rivals: Donkey Kong is Mario's rival.
- Is a Primary-Colored Champion: Like his OG version, Mario wears a red shirt and hat and blue overalls. His eyes are also blue.
- Is an Underdog: Mario starts off as an unsuccessful plumber who gets little to no respect from anyone around him, save Luigi. However, after saving both New York City and the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario gets the respect he yearns for, especially from his father.
- Is a True Hero: While he wanted to earn people's respect, Mario saves the world out of a desire to help others.
