Katsuki Bakugo is one of the two deuteragonists of My Hero Academia.
He is voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese and by Clifford Chapin in the English dub.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Bakugo, while an overall anti-hero whose goal to be the best and dominating others contradicts the role of a true hero, plays a major role in saving the world from All For One and Shigaraki.
- Courageous/Reckless: Bakugo has no issue with risking his life (let alone get himself kidnapped by villains) to save innocents and protecting his comrades. Plus, in battle he typically goes with his gut a large majority of the time, such to the point that Momo even had to call him out for how reckless he was being when he was acting arrogantly during his fight with Izuku in the Battle Trial.
- Energetic: Bakugo is extremely hot-blooded, loud and often prone to shouting and yelling.
- Stubborn: Bakugo is rather extremely difficult to reason with and always prefers to do things his way.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Bakugo wants to become the No. 1 Hero in Japan and defeat the League of Villains once and for all.
- While he's still working on accomplishing these goals, he also had a few goals that he's achieved at so far, such as saving, helping and protecting Deku from All For One, Shigaraki and the League of Villains, making amends to Deku for the way he badly mistreated him in the past, and even killing All For One on his own.
- Hard-Working: After seeing Deku inheriting a Quirk and becoming than stronger Bakugo himself, Bakugo was deeply affected by this and began taking his training much more seriously in order to surpass him and All Might.
- Unintelligent: Despite being quite smart and a genius student in the academy, he shows to be pretty dumb sometimes, is super impulsive and he even acts like somewhat of an idiot as well on a few occasions. Some good examples of this includes:
- The flashback in his childhood as seen in the Battle Trial Arc; when Midoriya went out to help him getting out of a lake Bakugo fell, and Bakugo took Midoriya's kind gesture and twists that into as an act of looking down on him (which started his endless bullying towards Midoriya and how he started becoming a short-tempered jerk).
- He refused to follow the rules of heroism even when his or others' lives were in danger as seen in the Hideout Raid Arc during the All Might vs All For One situation, when Midoriya (alongside Kirishima, Todoroki, Yaoyorozu and lda) made a good plan to help All Might that went smoothly, but Bakugo messed it up since he purposely told Kirishima to say his name because he thought if it was anybody else he wouldn't trust them.
- During the Final Exams Arc, he was so dense that Midoriya even had to point out how idiotic Bakugo's ideals of "never getting help from anyone" even against enemies that he can't defeat on his own, genuinely were. Especially since Bakugo believed using only brute force and raw power alone was all it took to win over more serious opponents during a fight without considering their movements or counter-strategies that could hinder Bakugo's simple plan, and Bakugo originally dismisses Midoriya's advice by seeing it as an attempt to undermine him before later realizing he should think to use strategies in a fight.
- In fact, his anger issues also clouds his judgment way too many times that Bakugo would jump into conclusions and get easily carried away with misunderstandings more times than not, such as the time in the U.A. Sports Festival Arc where he wanted Todoroki to be at his very best when he was also ignorant of the idea that becoming a true hero is doing what they can and also doing the best they can do.
- The fact his pride and acts of bullying Midoriya is all done for literally no good reason since it's shown that he had no motive or experience that made him want to pick on Midoriya or the weak, this makes Bakugo more mindless since his relentless bullying he did ever since middle school had no purpose to begin with.
- He was not wise enough to realize that the "villain" in the room is actually a hobo wrapped in dirty rags.
- Optimistic: Regardless of things not always going his way and often being a cynic about anything, Bakugo refuses to keep his head down and continues to move forward.
- Confident/Cocky: Bakugo sees himself as the best, is incredibly arrogant/brash to the point of being childish and abrasive beyond belief, is a self-aggrandizing egotist who looks down on others and is always ready to prove his superiority to others if it means gaining a massive ego boost and making himself look better than others (such to the point of acting like he knows how good he is and doesn't need to be told that he's "amazing" ever since he was young).
- Determined: Due to his goal to be the No.1 Hero, Bakugo will take on any threat to reach the top, no matter the odds.
- Self-Sacrificing: Has tried to sacrifice himself to protect his friends and the town.
- Youthful: Despite acting, behaving and thinking he's more mature than others in his earlier state, Bakugo nevertheless has shown to have a very naive mindset and is fairly immature.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: After spending time with Class 1-A, Bakugo becomes a bit more considerate, and he only gained more strength from how much he secretly cares about them.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Bakugo has survived several injuries and a few near-death experiences.
- Has a Rival/Mentor: He considers Deku and Todoroki to be his true rivals (as well as Monoma being another rival of his from Class 1-B), and he has a couple of mentors such as his teacher Eraserhead, his hair stylist Best Jeanist and even All Might himself.
- Has an Idol: Just like Deku, Bakugo aspires to be like All Might.
- Spiky Hair: Bakugo has spiky blond hair.
- Short-Tempered: Bakugo's personality is devoted to him being quick-tempered and also extremely prone to lashing exceedingly angry outbursts at everyone, is occasionally violent and also berserker because of how innately furious he truly is.
- Mischievous: Bakugo enjoys being a troublemaker and messing with people as the bully that he is, especially if it means causing havoc and starting fights with people during his fights and exams, and he also shows pure delight in doing something wrong with a slasher smile and a glint in his eye.
- Rebellious: Despite having the third-best grades in his class, Bakugo is the class delinquent and refuses to conform to certain standards due to how stubborn he is.
- Is a Blood Knight: Bakugo is always ready to participate in a good fight with someone he finds worthy to fight and remain stronger than others, especially if it means taking on his classmates such as Kirishima.
- Is a Challenge Seeker: Bakugo wants to surpass both All Might and Deku, especially fighting the latter in order to challenge him.
- Is a Delinquent: Bakugo spends a lot of his time being a bully, coming to class without a tie and his shirt collar unbuttoned (and his pants sagging down), always has messy hair and gets very irritable when one tries to neaten it (which can make his hair spiky on it's own).
- Is a Chick Magnet: While he was initially not liked by many girls because of his over-the-top aggression that intimidates them and turned them away, and while he's not as much of a ladykiller as Midoryia or Todoroki are, but after the Final Arc; Bakugo's popularity managed to get a lot of freshman girls falling for him, much to Bakugo's disgust and Mineta's envy.
- Calls Out Attacks: Bakugo calls out such attacks such as:
- DIE!!!!!
- D*MN IT!!!!
- HOWITZER IMPACT!!!!!
- Is a Shotoclone: His attacks always come down to exploding charging attacks, which he usually does head-on.
- Is a Teen Hero: Bakugo starts his hero training at 14.
