Katara is one of the two deuteragonists of Avatar: The Last Airbender. She is voiced by Mae Whitman.
What Makes Her a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Katara is one of the main players of putting to an end to the Hundred Year War.
- Courageous/Reckless: Katara is willing to risk her life to help innocent people.
- Stubborn: Katara wants to learn advance Waterbending despite being told by Master Pakku that women cannot be fighters.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Alongside Sokka, Katara helps out Aang on helping save the world.
- Additionally, she wants to become a master Waterbender.
- Hard-Working: Despite being less naturally talented in Waterbending than Aang, Katara does her best to master Waterbending techniques.
- Optimistic: While she can feel down at times, Katara displays a high sense of hope throughout the series.
- Idealistic: Katara believes that Aang can save the world even though everyone else doubts him due to being a kid who is reluctant to handle the responsibility of being the Avatar.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Katara survives many dangers that no normal person can live through.
- Oblivious to Love: Katara was initially unaware of Aang's crush on her.
- Short-Tempered: While mostly a peaceful person, Katara can be argumentative and impatient at times.
- Has a Mentor: Pakku teaches Katara the secret techniques of Waterbending.
- Tragic Past: Along with Sokka, their mother Kya was killed in a Fire Nation raid when she was a little girl, and their father and all the men of the tribe left two years prior to the show's start. This left Katara with abandonment issues.
