James Patrick Sullivan, better known by his nickname Sulley, is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Mike Wazowski) of the Disney/Pixar Monsters, Inc. franchise. He is the main protagonist of Monsters, Inc., the deuteragonist of its 2013 prequel Monsters University and one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Mike Wazowski) of the 2021 Disney+ animated series Monsters at Work.
He is voiced by John Goodman.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Along with Mike, Sulley saved every child and thousands of jobs from Waternoose and Randall's elaborate plan and has been shown to be have remorse from cheating at the Scare Games.
- Courageous/Reckless: Sulley has gone into the door in the lab to save Mike after he went into it and later tried to defend Boo from Waternoose.
- Stubborn: Despite the door being locked to protect monsters from entering it, Sulley went in it, even after the protest of various characters.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Sulley wants to return Boo home and stop Waternoose and Randall's conspiracy to kidnap children.
- Hard-Working: Like Mike, he worked his way up Monsters Inc.'s hierarchy to become a Scarer.
- Optimistic: Unlike Mike, who can sometimes be pessimistic, Sulley is overall optimistic.
- Unnatural Hair Color: While debatable due to all monsters having unusual fur color, Sulley has blue fur with polkadots.
- Has a Rival: Randall Boggs is Sulley's main archenemy after Sulley beat him at the Scare Games.
