Hercules is the titular main protagonist of the 1997 Disney animated movie of the same name.
He was voiced by Tate Donovan as an adult and by Josh Keaton as a teenager.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Hercules has protected Greece from monsters and saved Olympus from Hades, and is overall portrayed as very humble, notably not allowing his fame to corrupt him.
- Courageous/Reckless: Hercules doesn't show fear when in danger, notably trying to fight the Cyclops despite losing his powers and jumping into River Styx to save Meg.
- Energetic: Hercules has an excitable streak and is eager for a challenge.
- Stubborn: Hercules possesses a very strong will and doesn't let anything beat him down.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Hercules wants to become a true hero and reunite with his father Zeus and the gods of Olympus.
- Hard-Working: To be able to control his strength, Hercules spends the entirety of "One Last Hope" training to become physically stronger.
- Unintelligent: Hercules is far from the brightest bulb and is outright clumsy at the start of the story.
- Optimistic: No matter what happens, Hercules generally has a cheerful personality.
- Idealistic: Hercules believes in the power of heroism and strives to do what's right.
- Determined: Even with his powers taken away by Hades, Hercules continues to keep fighting to the point of risking his life to save Megara's soul from the River Styx.
- Confident: Hercules has high confidence in his abilities.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Hercules values his relationships with Phil, Pegasus, and Megara.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Hercules was able to survive from swimming in the River Styx due to his god physiology kicking in when the Fates tried to cut his life thread.
- Oblivious to Love: Although he did fall in love with Meg at first sight, Hercules didn't know she felt the same about him (which was reinforced when he found out she was working for Hades) until she decided to protect him from a collapsing pillar.
