Gon Freecss is the main protagonist of Hunter X Hunter.
He is voiced by Junko Takeuchi in the original Japanese version of the 1999 anime, who also voiced Naruto Uzumaki of the same name, and by Elinor Holt in the English dub, while in the 2011 anime he is voiced by Megumi Han in the original Japanese version and Erica Mendez in the English dub,.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Gon has rescued Killua from being locked up in his own house and defeated Genthru in order to escape from the video game Greed Island.
- Courageous/Reckless: Gon didn't hesitate to save innocent people such as saving a fellow Hunter from drowning.
- Energetic: Gon has an adventurous streak and gets riled up easily, especially during battle.
- Stubborn: Gon wanted to win the game of dodgeball despite risking his teammates' well-being, including Killua's.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: After 12 years of growing up without his father Ging being present in his life, Gon sets out to become a Hunter to find him.
- Hard-Working: Gon practices him Nen abilities in order to create the Janjanken.
- Unintelligent: While creative and intuitive, Gon is impulsive, naive and has been shown to be book-dumb due to growing up in a small rural town.
- Optimistic: Gon is usually shown to have a cheerful approach to any situation regardless of how serious it is and how much is stacked against him.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Gon manages to survive injuries to the point of being nursed back to health after using up all of his Nen to defeat Neferpitou.
- Has a Rival/Mentor: Gon has competed in training with Killua Zoldyck and is guided by Biscuit.
- Spiky Hair: Gon has spiky hair.
- Unnatural Hair Color: The tips of his hair are green.
- Short-Tempered: While he is an easygoing kid, Gon can lose his temper at times, especially when someone harms those he cares about.
- Has an Idol: Gon wants to be a Hunter like his father Ging and views him as strong.
