Gaara is a supporting character in Naruto.
He is voiced by Akira Ishida in Japanese and by Liam O'Brien in the English dub.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Gaara has played a large role in saving the world from various threats, notably stopping Deidara from destroying his village, successfully uniting the hidden villages into the Allied Shinobi Forces, and being an active fighter in the Fourth Shinobi World War, and would subvert much of his bloodlust to the point he would no longer feel joy in killing his enemies.
- Courageous: Gaara doesn't show fear when stuck in a sticky situation, and remains level-headed.
- Stubborn: At one point, despite Kankuro's protests in fear for his danger, Gaara would help in a plan between Konoha and Suna to lure out the Akatsuki by having him as an instructor in the Chunin Exams.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Gaara wishes to become a great leader to Suna to prove he is not a monster to the villagers and to atone for his past sins.
- Hard-Working: Gaara has been shown to work rather hard as Kazekage.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Gaara has a very close relationship with Naruto due to him being his first friend, to the point he would bar him from preventing the Fourth Shinobi World War to protect him, and would later even help Lee as a way to compensate for him nearly ending his career as a shinobi.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Gaara was able to survive from having Shukaku extracted from him due to Lady Chiyo trading her life for his.
- Spiky Hair: In the original series, Gaara has spiky hair.
- Unnatural Hair Color: Burgundy
- Short-Tempered: While he is known for his calmness, Gaara can be combative and hot-headed at times, which he doesn't fully subvert after his redemption, with one notably wrathful moment being when Deidara teased him.
- Has a Rival/Mentors: Gaara rivaled with Lee and Sasuke during the Chunin Exams, and was taught by his father Rasa in ninjutsu and by Baki in the Chunin Exams, as well as being spiritually mentored by his uncle Yashamaru.
- Tragic Past: Gaara has one of the most tragic backstories of the series, as for a start, like all jinchuriki, he was bullied and isolated in his youth, and neglected by his father, only finding light in his uncle and his mother. However, this would all change one day when his father would order his uncle to kill him or destroy his spirit if he failed. All of this would break Gaara badly and lead him to spiral to villainy.
