Dr. Emmett Lathrop Brown is the deuteragonist of the Back to the Future franchise. He is a mad scientist, with rather quirky and emotional manners and very kind. He invented the flux capacitor, that makes time travel possible, and built a time machine out of a DeLorean car. Despite its ingenuity, his invention caused many problems and often changed the History of Hill Valley, the film's setting.
He is the best friend of Marty McFly (who calls him "Doc") whom he took on many adventures by accident, and despite their completely opposed personalities, they make a great time-traveling team.
He was portrayed by Christopher Lloyd in the movies. He was played by Christopher Lloyd in the live-action segments of Back to the Future: The Animated Series, while he was voiced by Dan Castellaneta.
What Makes Him A Shonen Hero[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Saves Marty and Clara twice. Helps Marty to destroy bad reality.
- Courageous/Reckless: Recklessly stole Plutonium from the libyans.
- Energetic: A very energetic scientist and is often incredibly exuberant.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: To invent (later destroy) the time machine.
- Hard-Working: Does his best for his goals.
- Optimistic: He always believes that good things will happen.
- Determined: Never gives up even in unpleasant situation.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Is quite friendly to anyone he meets.
- Oblivious to Love: Interesting version. He doesn't believe he may fall in love with anyone in the third film.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Being an inventor of a time machine implies that whenever he is killed, Marty will prevent it.
