Douglas Yancey "Doug" Funnie is the titular main protagonist of the Doug franchise.
In the Nickelodeon series, he was voiced by Billy West, who also voiced Philip J. Fry in Futurama. In the Disney series, he was voiced by Tom McHugh.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Some of Doug's most heroic acts are saving his friends from drowning and keeping the mutated lizard Herman from being thrown in the toxic Lucky Duck Lake by Mayor Bluff.
- Courageous: Without hesitation, Doug dives in to save his friends from drowning.
- Energetic: Doug has a fun-loving and excitable side.
- Stubborn: Doug does whatever he can to protect Herman from Mayor Bluff despite the latter threatening to torture him.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Throughout the series, Doug wants to win Patty Mayonnaise's heart.
- Hard-Working: Despite his status as an underdog, Doug puts in a great effort to things that he is passionate about.
- Optimistic: Despite his fair share of failures, Doug refuses to let his life bring him down.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Doug befriends Herman despite others believing that the latter is a terrifying monster.
- Oblivious to Love: While Doug has a crush on Patti, he doesn't seem to notice the possibility that she likes him back.
- Short-Tempered: Doug can lose his temper from time to time.
- Has a Rival: Doug has a rivalry with school bully Roger Klotz.
