~ Daffy's famous catchphrase. |
Daffy Duck is one of the main characters of the Looney Tunes franchise. While he is often Bugs' rival, an anti-hero and a wacky egotist, he's also shown to be a superhero with a alter-ego named Duck Dodgers.
What Makes Him A Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Has saved Earth from Marvin the Martian as Duck Dodgers multiple times. Also defeated ACME in Back in Action and, for once, stopped being jealous of Bugs for a while in that movie.
- Courageous/Reckless: Both sides of Daffy Duck are quite reckless. As the "screwball" Daffy of the 30s and 40s, he was clumsy enough to hit himself in the head, thus causing the conflict of The Great Piggy Bank Robbery. As the more "cynical, egotistical" Daffy, there's obviously the Hunting trilogy, where he falls for all of Bugs' tricks due to buying into Bugs' plots way too easily until the last minute.
- Energetic: Most of the energy manifests through his wild & unpredictable antics, often performing elaborate stunts and schemes with frantic enthusiasm. His Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, and LTC selves are all extremely full of manic energy (as his name implies).
- Stubborn: Pretty sure this is why he got into conflicts with Porky in his early days, and even later then, this trait is what applies to his ego and his inability to outsmart Bugs.
- Pursues A Big-End Goal: Like all of the ACME Looniversity teachers, he does seem to care for the students and does seem to want them to be good at tooning, especially Plucky Duck, whom he serves as a mentor to.
- Hard-Working: As his Chuck Jones self, most notably when he does everything, he thought he could prove he's better than Bugs in 1957's Show Biz Bugs (even when his own schemes backfire due to his impulsive behavior).
- Unintelligent: His intelligence is extremely on & off and varies, as he can be a little intelligent as Duck Dodgers (despite his lack of self-awareness), can actually be rather clever, able to trick enemies to attack each other or utilize disguises and has pointed out Elmer Fudd's stupidity in Box Office Bunny, but he is often quick to jump into conclusions, makes hasty/ill-advised decisions while thinking he's smarter than others when he's generally not, he rarely thinks before he does or says anything, and is easily tricked and deceived in several shorts (especially since Bugs ultimately one-ups him in terms of rivalry due to Daffy's usual lack of common sense).
- In fact, The Looney Tunes Show made him even dumber than ever before and made him more of an egotistical moron whose ignorance and idiocy was carried to the point where he couldn't remember his name, birthdate, breaks many laws without thinking much of the consequences, and thought he was the first to invent bread and toilet paper.
- Optimistic: His screwball self is definitely a lot more happy-go-lucky than his Chuck Jones self.
- Determined: Wanted one-up Porky in You Oughta Be In Pictures, and later became more persistent to outshine Bugs very often (even when it backfires on him too).
- Confident/Cocky: His overinflated ego is so large that this is what defines his Chuck Jones self. And even then, he wanted to one-up Porky as his screwball self in the 1940 short "You Oughta Be In Pictures" (showing that he was always been an arrogant character even before this trait of being a "screwball egotist" became solidified over time).
- Unpredictable: Daffy's original screwball days had him being goofy and chaotic in ways that makes him hard to predict.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Every single Looney Tunes character is able to survive things that no normal person would be able to survive. Daffy is no exception, as he even survives gunshots and even being sent to space via rocket one time.
- Short-Tempered: Has shown many outbursts and meltdowns a lot of times, especially with the famous moment in Duck Amuck having him throwing a fit of being humiliated.
- Spiky Hair: Daffy has spiky tuft of feathers on his head.
- Has Rivals/Mentors: Porky, once had Foghorn Leghorn as a mentor, and later and in terms of rivalry, one of his more famous rivals is undoubtedly Bugs.
- Mischievous: He's the Western Animation Trope Codifier for The Prankster in his earlier days (though not as clever as Bugs' pranks were) He was a living black ball of mischief during his early days.
- Rebellious: Often does what he wants, even if it means getting carried away.
- Tragic Past: Is a huge scapegoat at times and appears to be stuck in an orphanage.
- Forgiving: To be able to put up with Bugs Bunny tormenting him as the animator for about 6 minutes straight probably spoke volumes to how forgiving he was in Duck Amuck.
- Is A Primary-Color Champion: Orange beak and feet and a white ring around his neck.
- Is A Delinquent: 1946's Daffy Doodles paints (in the context of the short, this is a pun) him as this. He keeps drawing mustaches everywhere, and Porky, as a police officer, tries to capture him as a result.
- Is An Underdog: Keeps getting overshadowed by Bugs and often depicted as a loser in Space Jam and is often a stooge to Bugs.
- Is An Chick Magnet: Has had a noticeable history for attracting women when his actions are unintentional and doing things obliviously, this includes a pig, a duck detective, Lola became attracted one time and has a girlfriend named Tina.
- Street-Smart: Though not as much as Bugs in his Chuck Jones days or modern times, but Daffy (in his screwball days) was able to outsmart some of his enemies due to thinking on his feet.
