I can already tell today is going to be a fucking happy day in Hell!
~ Charlie singing “Happy Day in Hell” before meeting Adam and Lute.
That’s princess of Hell to you, pig!
~ Charlie standing up to Adam.

Princess Charlotte “Charlie” Morningstar is the main protagonist of the 2024 adult animated comedy musical series Hazbin Hotel. She is the princess of Hell, the daughter of Lucifer and Lilith, the manager of the Hazbin Hotel and Vaggie's girlfriend. She seeks to give sinners a second chance by putting them through rehabilitation and she will do anything to protect her subjects even if it comes at the cost of her life.

She is voiced by Erika Henningsen.

What Makes Her a Shonen Hero?[]

  • Heroic/Honorable: She founded the Hazbin Hotel for sinners to rehabilitate and achieve redemption so they can ascend to Heaven in the afterlife, forgave Sir Pentious for working with the Vees and convinced him to ally with her and her friends, took Rosie's advice on fixing her relationship with Vaggie after Adam exposed her biggest secret in the court of Heaven and defended her hotel from Adam with an army of cannibals while playing a large role in defeating the genocidal sadist himself and even ordered her father Lucifer to not kill the guy.
  • Courageous/Reckless: She overcame her fear of Adam to fight him to put an end to the final Extermination that would destroy Hell itself.
  • Energetic: She has a playful streak and is super bubbly most of the time.
  • Stubborn: Despite many people telling her that sinners can't be redeemed, she stays true to her ideals, principles and beliefs, with Emily accepting her proposal of redeeming sinners when the two meet in Heaven. Even Lucifer was able to change his mind due to his daughter not letting other people's opinions get her down.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: Her main goal is to help sinners reform and go to Heaven.
  • Hard-Working: She spends a lot of time redeeming sinners and moulding them into better versions of themselves.
  • Optimistic: Regardless of the environment she lives in, she is mostly a happy, compassionate and carefree girl whose optimism inspires people (e.g. Lucifer) to change for the greater good.
  • Idealistic: Despite Lucifer disagreeing with her idea of redeeming sinners, Charlie still proved to him that anyone can have a second chance as long as they want to put in the effort to be better.
  • Determined: Even when she feared that she may lose the battle with Adam and his army of Exorcists, she was still willing to save the hotel and its hundreds of occupants from death and destruction, which succeeded.
  • Confident/Cocky: Despite not being an egotist, she is still proud of herself whenever a sinner becomes a good person.
  • Self-Sacrificing: As Husk points out, she is a sweet soul who wants to solve everyone's problems but her own.
  • Resilient: Even though she failed to win the trial in the court of Heaven regarding the idea of sinners redeeming themselves, her actions made Sir Pentious a better person and he managed to ascend to Heaven in the Season 1 finale, much to Sera's shock and Emily's joy.
  • Youthful: Despite being in her 20s, she has the personality of an overexcited teenage girl.
  • Believes in the Power of Friendship: She thinks that anything is possible as long as you have friends by your side.
  • Possesses Plot Armor: She accidentally caused a fire in Angel Dust's studio which could have killed her if not for her desperate attempt to put out the fire.
  • Short-Tempered: While she is usually kind and friendly to everyone, she does have her wrathful and jerkish moments like trying to fight Katie Killjoy in the pilot, nearly snapping at Adam when he sings "Hell is Forever", and infamously flipping off Susan while insulting her at a speech in Cannibal Town. Though to be fair, most of her angry moments are just heating-up periods.
  • Has an Idol: Considering that Lucifer implicitly gave the red suit to her according to a photo which shows him wearing the outfit, it shows just how much Charlie wants to be like her dad.
  • Rebellious: She refuses to believe that sinners are irredeemable and is willing to change anyone's mind.
  • Tragic Past: In her childhood, she had an estranged relationship with her father Lucifer, who was dealing with depression ever since he created sin itself and isolated himself out of shame for his actions. She also grew up in a time period where the Exterminations annually happen every year, which sees countless sinners killed. This left her distraught, and serves as her motivating factor for opening the hotel to redeem sinners.
  • Forgiving: She refused to let Vaggie and Angel kill Sir Pentious even when he was told to commit suicide by Vox, and sang "It Starts With Sorry" to let him know that he's forgiven.
  • Is a Primary-Color Champion: Her main outfit consists of red and white.
  • Is a Challenge Seeker: She took on the opportunity to stop Adam and his Exterminations.
  • Is an Underdog: She thought she would lose the war against the Exorcists, but was proven to be completely wrong in the end.
  • Is a True Hero: Even if it came at the cost of her life, she'd do anything to protect her subjects.
  • Street-Smart: She solves problems with singing more often than not.
  • Has a Battle Cry: She tells the Exorcists to die during the final battle.

Trivia[]

  • She is the opposite of her friends Vaggie and Alastor (who are both Seinen Heroes whereas Charlie is a Shonen Hero) and the good counterpart and archetype rank antithesis of her archenemy Adam (who is a Shonen Villain).
