Buzz Lightyear is the deuteragonist of the Toy Story franchise. He is voiced by Tim Allen.

What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]

  • Heroic/Honorable: In the second film, Buzz goes all the way to save Woody after the latter is kidnapped by Al McWhiggin.
  • Courageous/Reckless: Buzz is willing to save others, even when the odds are stacked against him.
  • Stubborn: Buzz wants to complete his mission to rescue Woody despite the latter's refusal to come home.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: Like Woody and the others, Buzz want to be there for Andy and Bonnie to make them have happy childhoods.
  • Hard-Working: Buzz is diligent about keeping every toy in check to make sure that they are safe and good enough to be played with.
  • Unintelligent: Though he becomes wiser in later films and is generally intelligent and smart in the first three movies despite having some moments of being ignorant or a little gullible, but in the fourth movie Buzz was given many moments of being clueless, ignorant, impulsive, naive and generally dense.
  • Optimistic: Though he had a moment of depression as a result of his existential crisis in the first film, Buzz manages to gain his cheerful attitude thanks to Woody's encouragement.
  • Idealistic: Buzz believes that true friends should never leave each other behind.
  • Determined: Buzz will go out of his way to help someon, even when the odds are stacked against him.
  • Confident: Despite his existential crisis in the first film, Buzz regains faith in himself after being given words of compliments by Woody.
  • Believes in the Power of Friendship: Buzz puts aside his rivalry with Woody to escape from Sid's house in order to reunite with Andy and, as a result, becomes best friends with Woody.
  • Possesses Plot Armor: After Lotso leaves Buzz and the rest of the group to die in the garbage incinerator, the Little Green Men saved them by using the claw to lift them from the incinerator.
  • Is a True Hero: Alongside Woody, Buzz even risked his life to save Lotso from being shredded into pieces despite his misdeeds.
  • Street-Smart: In all of his appearances, he appears to be knowledgeable in how to survive and come up with plans on the fly.
