Darryl Walker, also known as by his superhero alias Blankman, is the titular main protagonist of Blankman. He is portrayed by Damon Wayans.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Blankman has saved New York City from Minelli and his gang by shutting down explosives in a bank.
- Courageous/Reckless: Darryl risks his life numerous times to protect an elderly woman from being robbed by a thief.
- Energetic: Darryl has a rather excitable and childlike personality, and would shout his lines out in his role as "Blankman" like a giddy kid would do acting as a "superhero".
- Stubborn: Darryl wants to fight crime by playing the role of a superhero despite his brother Kevin's initial protests against the idea.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Ever since his childhood, Darryl wants to be a superhero to fight crime and make the world a better place.
- Hard-Working: Darryl creates unique and inventive gadgets for his superheroic purposes.
- Unintelligent: Though he has proficient mechanical skills as a repairman and inventor, Darryl is rather naive, gullible, clumsy, struggles with obvious social cues (such to the point that he can come across as either perverted or otherwise socially awkward at times) and generally makes a ton of stupid decisions throughout the film when it comes to fighting crime: one infamous example being how he told Other Guy that only his outfit is bulletproof while Other Guy was immediately falling from getting shot due to Blankman not thinking to give him a bulletproof outfit (it's quite rare for him to make an actually smart decision in the film).
- Optimistic: While he had a moment of self-doubt, Darryl is overall a cheerful and happy-go-lucky man.
- Idealistic: He believed that he could become a superhero and fight crime, even when nobody saw it as safe to do.
- Determined: Blankman wants to avenge his grandmother and does it in the form of crimefighting to target, pursue and punish the perpetrators for said death.
- Confident: He shows lots of confidence with his belief in fighting crime.
- Unpredictable: He tricked a mob boss into thinking he shot him but surprised and confused him over the fact that Blankman has bulletproof armor underneath his costume.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Blankman would've been killed by a thug if Kevin (aka Other Guy) didn't step in to rescue him and does some martial arts on him.
- Has Idols: Darryl is inspired by various superheroes, specifically Batman.
- Mischievous: His superhero-oriented antics did cause havoc at a bank, and he often gets himself into some trouble.
- Is a Blood Knight: Blankman appears to enjoy fighting criminals, even if he landed attacks in ways he did or cluelessly does so.
- Is a Primary-Color Champion: Red, white, yellow and some blue.
