What is the Work?

Static Shock is an animated series based on the DC comics series, Static. It focuses on Virgil Hawkins, a teenager who develops electromagnetic powers after an incident with gangsters and becomes a superhero to defend Dakota from various villains.

Who is the Candidate?

Virgil Hawkins, also known as Static, is the titular main protagonist of Static Shock. He was voiced by Phil LaMarr.

What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?

• Heroic/Honorable: Static saves Dakota multiple times from various threats.

• Courageous/Reckless: Static has no issues with risking his life for others.

• Energetic: Static has many moments of being excitable.

• Stubborn: Static will do anything to do what it is right despite others warning not to do it.

Verdict?

Yes. Despite growing up in a violent urban neighborhood in inner-city Dakota and losing his mother as a result, Static wants to make his home a better place for his loved ones to live in.

Everybody Hates Chris is an American sitcom created by comedian Chris Rock. The shows centers on Rock's experiences as a teenager as he deals with his dysfunctional family while attending a predominantly white school during the 1980s.

Who is the Candidate?

Chris Rock is the titular main protagonist of Everybody Hates Chris. He was portrayed by Tyler James Williams.

What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?

• Heroic/Honorable: When he is on his way to school, Chris saves a baby in the middle of a police shootout.

• Courageous/Reckless: Chris was brave enough to run through the police shootout to reach to school before being late.

• Energetic: Chris has his moments of being energetic and fun-loving.

• Stubborn: Chris refuses to clean the dishes as his mother Rochelle asks him to do so.

• Pursues a Big-End Goal: Before becoming a comedian, Chris wants to find love in his life. He manages to get together with his next-door neighbor Tasha Clarke, only to break up with her when he realizes how clingy and jealous she is.

• Unintelligent: Though very street-smart and knowledgeable about black culture, Chris is book-dumb and receives poor grades.

• Hard-Working: Despite being a mediocre student, Chris manages to get better grades in the later seasons.

• Optimistic: Despite all of his misfortunes as a result of bad luck, Chris manages to look at the bright side and value the positives in his life.

• Believes in the Power of Friendship: Chris values his friendship with Greg Wulliger, going as far as to prioritize looking for him over going out with his date to the school dance.

• Possesses Plot Armor: Chris manages to survive running through the police shootout.

• Oblivious to Love: Though he has a crush on Tasha, he was unaware of how interested she is in him.

• Has Rivals/Mentors: Chris has a rivalry with school bully Joey Caruso until after he dropped out of Tattaglia. Chris has several mentors, specifically his substitute teacher who teaches how to be more diligent, both in school and in life.

• Mischievous: Chris takes pleasure out of pranking Caruso as revenge for bullying him throughout the 8th grade.

• Rebellious: Being a teenager, Chris disobeys his parents to do what he wants.

Verdict?

I say yes. He is a bit unconventional, considering he is based on a real-life comedian, unlike most shonen heroes who are straight-up fictional characters.

Wildman Maxeeno is a WEBTOON webcomic. It follows Maxeeno Manervolkan, an adventurous and mischievous 12-year-old, as he pursues his dream of becoming a Wildman to live a wild and free life.

Maxeeno Manervolkan is the titular main protagonist of Wildman Maxeeno.

What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?

• Heroic/Honorable: Maxeeno has nursed an injured puppy to health and saves Radite from being killed by Principal Strickweb.

• Courageous/Reckless: Maxeeno doesn't hesitate to risk his life to save his friends.

• Energetic: Maxeeno is rather hyperactive, even for a 12-year-old, and likes to go on exciting adventures.

• Stubborn: Despite of what others tell him of what he can't do, Maxeeno remains persistent regardless.

• Pursues a Big-End Goal: Maxeeno wants to be a Wildman to live an adventurous life without regrets.

• Unintelligent: Though he is very street-smart and has plenty of common sense due to growing up in the hood, Maxeeno has plenty of moments of being goofy and scatterbrained. He is also fairly book-dumb, given that he is a C-student.

• Hard-Working: Unlike Radite, who is a highly skilled martial artist, Maxeeno relies on his street-fighting style and sense of willpower to fight his opponents as well as having to train his abilities to compete with his rival.

• Optimistic: Regardless of his hardships and the trauma he endured in his past, Maxeeno looks at the positives in his life and manages to keep moving forward.

• Believes in the Power of Friendship: Maxeeno gains his strength from how much he values his friends and is willing to risk his life to protect them.

• Possesses Plot Armor: Maxeeno manages to get back up after being pierced through his chest by Principal Strickweb.

• Oblivious to Love: While Maxeeno has a crush on Kanupa, he is unaware of her feelings for him due to her never expressing them to him.

• Spiky Hair: Maxeeno has a spiky and fairly curly afro.

• Has a Rival: Maxeeno has a rivalry with his best friend Radite Casanova.

• Short-Tempered: While he isn't as quick to anger as Radite, Maxeeno can be wrathful and violent at times, especially when someone threatens or hurts those he cares about.

• Mischievous: Maxeeno has a tendency to pull pranks and come up with troublesome schemes for fun.

• Rebellious: Maxeeno breaks school rules on a daily basis and frequently gets into trouble with authority figures.

Verdict?

I say yes. Maxeeno has saved an injured puppy and saves his best friend from getting killed by their principal.
